Many of my clients have enjoyed receiving the “rent credit” that comes in August. In the past you would file the M1PR separately from your state income tax return. This year there are some adjustments in order to receive that credit. I want to let you know so you don’t miss out.
You will need to do your “rent credit” with your personal income tax return. If you do it at a different time you will need to amend your state of Minnesota income tax return. Which is a tedious process and will cost extra. This means you should get that CRP form and bring it with you when you do your income tax return.
This change is just for renters. Home owners will continue to file the M1PR separately from their income tax return. Here at BenTaxes we are trying to provide you with an honest quality service at a reasonable price.
